Axios breathlessly reports Donald Trump 'personally guaranteed' Israel wouldn't break a Gaza ceasefire, somehow swaying Hamas. This conveniently overlooks the fact that "ceasefire" has become a euphemism for "brief pause before the next escalation" for decades. Remember the 'ceasefire' after Operation Cast Lead in 2009, or Protective Edge in 2014? The mainstream narrative always focuses on the
latest 'deal,' never the consistent pattern of US-enabled Israeli breaches that render such promises meaningless. One might wonder why Hamas, after years of watching US-supplied weapons decimate Gaza, would suddenly trust a verbal promise. This 'personal guarantee' narrative also side-steps the historical US failure to hold Israel accountable for numerous violations of international law, often
using its UN Security Council veto power. It appears the lesson for Hamas isn't 'trust the US,' but rather, 'hope for a different flavor of empty promises this time.' How many 'new beginnings' do thousands of dead civilians get?
