Trump Promises 'New Middle East' To Knesset, History Says Otherwise
Trump, like many before him, sold the vision of a 'historic dawn' in the Middle East. Al Jazeera’s fact-check (Al Jazeera, October 16, 2025) focused on the claims, but conveniently overlooked the cyclical nature of such pronouncements. Netanyahu himself has repeatedly declared 'new eras' of security and prosperity for Israel—after the Second Intifada (2002), after the 2006 Lebanon War, and
following the 2014 Gaza conflict. Each declaration, it appears, merely presaged the next round of violence and displacement. These pronouncements always follow the same script: American politicians pledge unwavering solidarity and weapons, Israeli leaders promise peace through strength, and the cycle continues. How many 'historic dawns' must Palestinians endure before the media stops pretending
these are novel ideas, rather than a decades-old rhetorical varnish on an ever-deepening occupation?
