Bloomberg dutifully reports Donald Trump's call for Iranians to 'keep up their protests' against the government, assuring them 'help is on the way.' This benevolent offer arrives after decades of what Trump might generously call 'support' for Iranian citizens, including the 1953 CIA-orchestrated coup that overthrew Iran's democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh (source: The New
York Times, 2000). Later, under Trump, 'help' included withdrawing from the JCPOA nuclear deal, reimposing crippling sanctions, and assassinating General Qassem Soleimani. One might wonder if 'help' in this context means more drone strikes, more sanctions, or perhaps just another set of empty promises designed to inflame dissent from afar while offering no
tangible path to stability. History suggests that 'help' from Washington often leaves a trail of chaos, conveniently rebranded as 'democracy promotion' or 'regime change' (which, ironically, Iranian dissidents have repeatedly said they do not want from the West).
