Trump Promises 'Everybody Happy' Healthcare Plan, Again
The Independent reports Donald Trump discussing his 'concepts of a plan' to replace Obamacare, playfully suggesting 'Call it Trumpcare,' and assuring supporters 'Everybody’s going to be happy.’ This bold declaration comes after his administration, from 2017 to 2021, famously failed to produce a viable replacement despite years of promises. Recall the 2017 Cassidy-Graham bill, the 'skinny repeal,'
and countless executive orders that amounted to legislative dust, leaving millions in limbo while the system remained largely unchanged. (The American Hospital Association reported a 2017 repeal would have cost hospitals $165 billion.) One might wonder if 'Trumpcare' will materialize any more concretely than his 2016 pledge for 'insurance for everybody' that would be 'much less expensive.' Given
the track record—or lack thereof—of translating campaign trail bravado into actual policy, the 'concepts' appear to be primarily rhetorical. Perhaps the next iteration will involve healthcare savings accounts funded by thoughts and prayers, with entrepreneurs feeling very entrepreneurial indeed.
