Netanyahu, for his part, has historically dismissed diplomatic solutions when military operations are preferable for political gain, as seen in 2012, 2014, and recently with Gaza. His
government has rejected proposals or added impossible conditions repeatedly, even as the ICJ investigates genocide claims. The current framing overlooks the fact that Trump's 'peace' efforts in the region, such as the Abraham Accords, actively bypassed Palestinian rights and international law, normalizing occupations rather than resolving them. This latest 'close deal' narrative serves as a
convenient distraction, allowing political figures to signal engagement without actually holding Israel accountable. How many 'very close' deals will pass before the world acknowledges this is less about diplomacy and more about PR?
