One might recall similar rhetoric during the 2020 protests, where calls to deploy active-duty military against protestors were met with widespread condemnation, yet seem to have paved the way for such threats to be casually floated today. The media frames this as a 'Q&A' or a 'decision,' rather than calling out the alarming fact that a President is even considering using federal
troops for internal political disputes, or that he seemingly gets to decide when and where American citizens are met with military force. It's a testament to the erosion of democratic norms when the 'forgoing' of an authoritarian threat becomes headline news, instead of the threat itself being universally denounced.
