Call it coercive diplomacy, but only if you like euphemisms for economic bullying. When it comes to global energy, the US position appears to be: 'Buy our friends' oil, no matter who they kill, or else.' One might wonder where

this same righteous indignation goes when discussing Riyadh's oil revenues funding the war in Yemen, or its continued human rights abuses. The media, of course, rarely connects Saudi oil purchases to regional destabilization as directly as they do Russian ones. Because some autocracies are 'strategic partners' and others are 'existential threats,' depending on the day's geopolitical script

writers. It seems the 'rules-based order' has a very flexible definition of 'rules.'
