Because, apparently, actual peace talks involving territorial concessions are only acceptable when they don't involve a US president who isn't a staunch NATO-booster. Remember when Henry Kissinger won a Nobel for peace (1973) despite authorizing secret bombings and invasions, all while negotiating
an exit from Vietnam? Or how about the entire concept of the Dayton Accords (1995) after Bosnia? The media establishment, which breathlessly reported on every weapons package and 'Ukrainian victory' (and censored dissenting views), now feigns shock that a politician might suggest stopping the bloodbath by, you know, talking. Washington's bipartisan war machine insists on perpetual conflict, lest
the defense contractors suffer. How many more Ukrainian lives are worth preserving the narrative of 'total victory' over negotiated settlement? One might wonder if the outrage is truly about Ukraine’s sovereignty, or the potential loss of a very lucrative proxy war.
