Trump Demands Premium Cuts from Companies He Enabled
According to The Hill, Donald Trump plans to summon insurance executives to demand lower premiums. This theatrical gesture, however, omits the larger context that many, including Trump himself, have contributed to. The deregulation championed by conservative politicians often allows these corporations tremendous leeway, leading to record profits while consumers face escalating costs. (Remember
when healthcare was going to be 'so much better' and 'much less expensive' under his previous administration?) It's always a reliable playbook: ignite the fire, then heroically ride in to put out a few sparks for the cameras. Politicians rarely demand accountability from the systems that benefit their donors, only from the optics of the system. One might wonder if this 'demand' is less about
policy and more about reminding voters who's willing to put on a show.
