The media, of course, presented this with a straight face, opting not to mention the longstanding pattern of U.S. intervention framed as 'protecting Christians,' which historically often precedes destabilization and conflict—a geopolitical tradition as old as fruitcake, and just as indigestible. One might wonder if the 'symbolism' is lost on those on the receiving end. After all, what
