The obvious question, deliberately left unasked by Al-Monitor, is which Palestinian leaders, exactly, Trump is
referring to. Perhaps the ones in his imagination, or the ones who will, hypothetically, approve his next golf course in an 'expanded' Judea and Samaria. This isn't just baffling; it's a reminder of a long history of US 'peace plans' for Palestine that conveniently ignore Palestinian self-determination in favor of top-down edicts. From the Oslo Accords that further entrenched occupation to the
'Deal of the Century' that erased Palestine altogether, American foreign policy consistently prioritizes Israeli security interests and, increasingly, American presidential egos, over international law or the actual will of the Palestinian people. The current administration, while less flamboyant, continues this tradition by endorsing an Israeli government determined to demolish Palestinian
statehood, all while arming them to the hilt. One might wonder if Trump's 'peace' involves beachfront property in Gaza.
