Trump Asks Netanyahu to 'Calm Down' Settlers, After Four Years of Fueling Them
According to Axios, Donald Trump and his team finally got around to asking Benjamin Netanyahu to "calm things down" in the occupied West Bank. This, after the previous Trump administration actively greenlit settlement expansion, moved the US embassy to Jerusalem, and proposed the 'Deal of the Century' which essentially legitimized Israeli annexation. One might recall Netanyahu himself bragging
about Trump's reversal of decades of US policy. How many more times will the West feign 'concern' while providing the diplomatic cover and military aid for the actions they claim to oppose? This sudden strategic pivot (or rather, performative concern) appears less about genuine care for Palestinian lives and more about securing the Abraham Accords and preventing a regional conflagration from
spoiling Trump's much touted 'peace' legacy. It seems the 'concerned officials' only speak up when expansionism threatens strategic US interests, not when it violates international law or human rights.
