Trump Appoints Envoy, Apparently Forgetting How Colonies Work
When the US wanted to 'buy' Greenland in 2019, Denmark quite rightly balked. Now, Trump's dispatched Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, declaring he understands how 'essential Greenland to our National Security' is. This isn't exactly new; the US has a long, storied history of territorial acquisition disguised as 'national security,' from Alaska (bought, admittedly) to Hawaii (forcefully annexed in
1898 after American business interests overthrew the monarchy). It appears Washington's approach to resource-rich, strategically located lands remains steadfastly colonial, regardless of the administration. Instead of respecting sovereignty, the US defaults to 'essential interests.' The only alarm truly registered in Washington seems to be when another global power might look at a map slightly too
long. How many 'envoys' does it take for a nation to understand consent isn't optional?
