Trump Admin and Louisiana Declare School Segregation 'Solved'
According to the Associated Press, a federal judge approved the dismissal of a 1967 lawsuit in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, ending a mandate to desegregate schools. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill thanked President Trump for 'helping us to finally end some of these cases.' This initiative, celebrated as returning 'school systems back' to local control, effectively erases a half-century of
deferred enforcement, not achieved equity. Ignoring historic, systemic underfunding and resource disparity between predominantly white and Black schools, this move declares victory by simply abandoning the battlefield. One might wonder if 'outdated' is a polite way of saying 'inconvenient to enforce' as school systems remain de facto segregated by neighborhood and resource allocation.
