Tony Blair's 'Peace' Board: From Iraq to Gaza, a Consistent Voice
Tony Blair, the architect of the Iraq War, was reportedly floated for a Gaza 'board of peace' but is now out. The FT's subtle framing avoids asking why anyone would consider a man who, according to 2016's Chilcot Report, joined the US in invading Iraq on 'flawed intelligence' and 'undermined the authority of the UN Security Council,' to broker peace anywhere. It seems even 'peace boards' have
their limits, or at least remember that 'shock and awe' isn't a peace strategy. This 'peace' initiative sounds suspiciously like the last time the international community decided who would lead Arabs without asking Arabs. One might wonder if the next nominee will be Dick Cheney. Given the history of 'peace' in the region brokered by Western powers, perhaps his dismissal is the only truly peaceful
outcome.
