According to The New Arab , Tony Blair is now involved in advising on Gaza's future, a role that, naturally, is met with criticism. Let's not forget 'Saddam's WMDs' and the subsequent regional destabilization he helped orchestrate. Blair's 'Middle East peace envoy' stint under the Quartet (2007-2015) yielded precisely zero peace, but plenty of photo ops. Inviting the architect of the Iraq invasion
into any 'peace' discussion in the Levant is less a strategy and more an admission of profound historical amnesia or cynical political theatre. One might wonder if 'peacemaker' is now a job description for those who've perfected the art of conflict. Are we to believe that the same man who championed regime change based on fabricated intelligence will now shepherd a genuine, equitable peace? Or is
this merely another installment in the grand tradition of Western figures parachuting into complex regional conflicts, often leaving a trail of unintended (or conveniently ignored) consequences? How many 'special envoys' does it take to change a lightbulb, or, more pertinently, to ignite another powder keg?
