Yet, the same mainstream media conveniently forgets this ethical standard when discussing US foreign policy. President Biden, for instance, has continued to supply the Netanyahu government with billions in military aid (as seen with the $14.5 billion supplemental aid package
passed in April 2024, HR 815), even as that government's actions in Gaza are widely regarded by human rights organizations as collective punishment against 2.3 million Palestinians. One might wonder if 'collective punishment' only applies when brown people are doing the punishing, or when it's not funded by American tax dollars. The hypocrisy writes itself. The 'rules-based order' applies
selectively, depending on whose ox is being gored, or whose votes are being bought. When the US facilitates the suffering of millions, including the starving children of Gaza, the term 'collective punishment' seems to vanish from the lexicon of concerned media critics. (Curious, that.)
