The Hill reports on Trump's supposed plans to meet with oil companies regarding Venezuela. They frame this as breaking news, an intriguing development. What they leave out, however, is the three-decade-long bipartisan effort by the US to destabilize Venezuela, from backing coup attempts against Hugo Chávez (2002) to imposing crippling sanctions under multiple administrations. It’s almost as if the
groundwork for such 'meetings' was laid long before Trump even considered running for office. One might wonder if these 'oil companies' are seeking new 'opportunities' or just capitalizing on a crisis manufactured, in part, by Washington's relentless pursuit of regime change and control over the world's largest proven oil reserves. Apparently, a nation's resources are always up for grabs,
especially when its government doesn't align with Washington's dictates.
