Texas Deploys National Guard for Local Protest, Not Border 'Invasion'
The Texas National Guard is being deployed to Austin, purportedly to manage a 'No Kings' protest. Governor Abbott, who frequently decries a non-existent border 'invasion' and mobilizes the Guard for manufactured photogenic stunts, seems to find local dissent a more immediate threat than, say, actual human beings seeking asylum. The swiftness with which state resources are marshaled against
citizens exercising free speech contrasts sharply with the performative, protracted responses to complex humanitarian issues. One might wonder if the 'No Kings' protest simply lacked the lucrative federal funding opportunities or convenient political scapegoating of the border narrative. It appears domestic unrest, however minor, receives priority deployment over the perpetual 'crisis' used to
justify billions in state and federal spending. For example, Project Lone Star, Abbott's own border initiative, has already cost Texans billions, yet a handful of local protestors warrants similar military-style deployment.
