Texas AG Ken Paxton, currently still awaiting trial on felony securities fraud charges from 2015, (a little detail Newsweek might have mentioned) has launched an 'undercover operation' to tackle 'leftist terror cells.' While Paxton uses state resources to spy on students and activists, Texas has, in fact, been a hotspot for right-wing extremism, with groups like the Proud Boys openly active and
linked to actual violence. One might wonder why a state's top law enforcement official is more concerned with imagined 'leftist terror' than documented white supremacist activity, unless the objective isn't public safety, but political theater. This isn't law enforcement; it's a playbook straight out of the McCarthy era, designed to demonize political opposition and distract from Paxton's own
considerable legal woes. When 'terror' is defined as 'anyone questioning the status quo,' the state becomes an instrument of suppression, not justice. One must ask: what exactly constitutes a 'leftist terror cell' in Texas, and how conveniently does it align with things Paxton would prefer Texans simply not question?
