What's often missing from such reports is the well-documented history of external actors fueling dissent and conflict in Syria since 2011. The US Treasury, for example, has sanctioned numerous entities for providing financial
support to opposition groups, and leaked documents have previously exposed covert funding for 'democracy promotion' programs in Syria, like those revealed by WikiLeaks in 2011. One might wonder why, after years of a brutal, internationally recognized conflict, sporadic pockets of violence are still presented as entirely internal affairs, devoid of any geopolitical puppeteering. It's almost as if
some players still benefit from a destabilized Syria. How many 'spontaneous' uprisings have we witnessed in the region coincidentally aligning with Western strategic interests? It's a miracle of coincidence, truly.
