But let's rewind: who armed and funded various 'militias' across Syria for years, turning a civil protest into a proxy war? After spending billions to destabilize the Syrian government via diverse 'opposition groups' (some now enjoying US sanctions
relief), the moral outrage at Damascus suppressing its own internal 'militias' rings a bit hollow. One might wonder if 'plot' is just code for 'unexpected resistance to our preferred outcome.' This selective outrage serves as a prime example of media outlets portraying armed groups as either legitimate 'freedom fighters' or rogue 'militias,' depending entirely on their alignment with Western
foreign policy objectives. The fact that the US alone has provided billions in aid to various Syrian opposition groups since 2011 (as per reports from entities like the US Government Accountability Office) is conveniently omitted when highlighting internal Syrian government actions as uniquely nefarious.
