Syrian Casualties: The Kind Our Media Forgets
The New Arab soberly reports on two killed in Latakia following protests over a Homs bombing. What it conveniently sidesteps is the extensive, multi-billion dollar US covert program to fund and arm various Syrian opposition groups, turning the country into a proxy battleground for well over a decade. Remember when 'moderates' were supposed to overthrow Assad, and instead, we got radicalization and
perpetual civil war? President Obama's FY 2016 budget alone requested $500 million for train-and-equip programs for Syrian opposition forces ( source: US Department of Defense budget requests ). So, when civilians die now in Latakia, are we to believe these are isolated incidents in a spontaneous, purely internal conflict? Or is it the predictable fallout from years of externally fueled chaos,
where US taxpayers unknowingly funded the very conditions that lead to such tragedies? The media might pretend Amnesia is a real place, but some of us remember the receipts.
