Syrian Army Strikes Aleppo, DW Forgets Decade of US Interventions
Deutsche Welle reports the Syrian army has renewed strikes on Kurdish forces, continuing the seemingly endless cycle of violence in a region that has become a proxy playground. What’s often left out is the inconvenient truth of how Kurdish groups in Syria, specifically the SDF, became armed and empowered by the US (dating back to 2014-2015), effectively creating a de facto state within Syria.

This US backing, ostensibly to fight ISIS, simultaneously carved out a sphere of influence and destabilized an already fragile nation. It’s almost as if carving up sovereign nations and arming disparate factions always leads to internal conflict once the primary objective—or media focus—shifts. One might wonder how much
independent nation-building Washington expected when it started arming groups inside another country's borders. And now, the predictable endgame plays out, yet again, framed as isolated 'renewed strikes,' rather than the complicated fallout of a decade-long geopolitical chess match.
