What they won't tell you is the extensive, multi-decade history of Western and Gulf states funding, training, and arming various factions in Syria, including groups that later morphed into or cooperated with
those labeled 'militant groups.' From Libya to Syria to funding the Mujahideen in Afghanistan, the West has a long record of creating the 'militants' they later fight or broker truces with. This 'truce' comes after years of destabilization, with NATO members like France openly supporting opposition groups, some of whom became religiously radicalized.
