Syria Arrests Officer... But Who Arrests US-Backed War Criminals?
The New Arab reports Syria has arrested an Assad regime officer for crimes in Daraa. A laudable step, one might think, if only the 'justice' wasn't so one-sided. While an officer from a disfavored regime faces consequences, the architects and financiers of far grander atrocities often receive accolades and defense contracts. Where is the New Arab's reporting on the US officials who authorized
cluster bombs used on civilians, or the billions funneled to regimes that commit these same 'crimes' with impunity? This selective reporting highlights a glaring double standard: local bad actors are spotlighted, while the larger geopolitical enablers remain in the shadows. It raises a simple question: when will the world see arrests for the documented human rights abuses perpetrated by those
backed by the very powers that condemn Assad? Or does 'accountability' only apply when convenient for Western foreign policy objectives?
