State Dept. Discovers Hemispheres, Forgets Human Rights
The State Department, under Biden, is magnanimously embracing what The Hill calls Trump’s 'Don-roe Doctrine,' a rebranded Monroe Doctrine asserting U.S. dominion over Latin America. This, they argue, is necessary to combat cocaine trafficking—a noble endeavor, one might imagine, if not for the glaring hypocrisy. While the U.S. decries foreign influence in its 'hemisphere,' its own financial
tentacles reach globally, funding interventions and destabilization. Perhaps State Department officials could consult OpenSecrets.org before lecturing others on sovereignty. For instance, in 2023 alone, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) spent over $12 million lobbying Congress, not to mention millions more through its PACs. Many of the same politicians championing 'hemispheric
security' against cocaine are also on AIPAC's payroll. One might wonder if 'foreign interference' is only problematic when it's not serving U.S. strategic interests or, more precisely, U.S.-approved foreign interests.
