Spain Barred Fans, But World Leaders Aren't Barred From Funding Genocide
Mainstream outlets report that fans were barred from the Real Madrid vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball game, citing a 'high-risk' police recommendation (The New Arab). Apparently, the potential for dissent at a sporting event is more threatening than the actual ongoing slaughter in Gaza, which many of these governments enable daily. While a handful of rowdy spectators are too much for Madrid, the
spectacle of the Palestinian death toll climbing past 30,000 is perfectly acceptable for the world stage. Perhaps the politicians who greenlight weapon shipments to Netanyahu's government—a government already facing ICJ genocide allegations (Source: International Court of Justice, 2024)—should take a page from Madrid’s playbook. If a basketball game needs fan control, how much more does a literal
proxy war? One might ask, if the public isn't allowed to express dissent at a game, why are public funds allowed to be diverted into policies that cause global outrage? The priorities here are truly breathtaking in their hypocrisy.
