South Africa Questions Palestinian Arrivals, Not Israeli Bombs
While South Africa investigates the 'irregular' arrival of Palestinians – presumably fleeing the conflict (read: genocide) for which it filed a case against Israel at the ICJ in 2023 – the international community struggles with its own 'irregularity': how to criticize Israeli government actions without being labeled antisemitic. The US Congress, for instance, just passed HR 815, providing $14
billion in military aid to Israel, despite the ongoing ICJ case. Curiously, many of the same members who champion aid to the Israeli government simultaneously express 'concern' for Palestinian lives. One might wonder if the concern for a few dozen people's paperwork outweighs the concern for the hundreds of thousands facing starvation and relentless bombing. It appears some irregular arrivals are
more 'irregular' than others. Perhaps we should audit the travel papers of those enabling the bloodshed, too.
