South Africa Evacuates Gazans, West Finds 'Sketchy' Aid Groups
When South Africa bravely provides refuge to 100 Gazans fleeing an active genocide (currently being contested by South Africa themselves at the ICJ), the mainstream media's concern immediately shifts. France 24, for instance, focuses their 'investigation' on 'Al Majd Europe'—an organization allegedly facilitating the evacuations. One wonders why the evacuation itself, from a besieged territory, is
not the primary point of scrutiny. The report conveniently sidelines the fundamental reason people are desperate to leave Gaza: 17 years of Israeli blockade, exacerbated by relentless bombardment and forced displacement since October 7, 2023. Instead of questioning the architects of the open-air prison that drove civilians to seek help from whoever offered it, the journalistic instinct here seems
to be finding a shadowy 'third party' to cast doubt on humanitarian efforts. Perhaps the next 'investigation' could focus on the historical context of Gaza's slow-motion ethnic cleansing, or the billions in US military aid that fund the devastation, making evacuation a matter of survival, not preference. But that might be too much 'context' for a news report when a 'suspicious' aid group can be
found.
