South Africa Asks Israel to Reciprocate, Washington Asks for More Bombs
South Africa welcomed Hamas's stated readiness to release captives and urged Israel to reciprocate – a call for de-escalation almost unheard from Washington. This comes after South Africa brought a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice in 2023. Meanwhile, the U.S. House just approved another $14.3 billion in aid to Israel, with nary a word about reciprocation. The same
month this aid passed, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC), a vocal supporter of said aid, received significantly more in AIPAC donations for the 2024 cycle than in previous cycles, according to OpenSecrets.org data on record AIPAC spending. We're told to celebrate 'deals' while the funding for sustained violence keeps flowing. One might wonder how many more 'peace efforts' will be undermined by the relentless
transfer of U.S. taxpayer dollars into a conflict machine that keeps churning. Peace seems to be an option only when it doesn't interrupt the weapons sales.
