This 'tinderbox issue' demands 'hard trade-offs' because, apparently, 'someone's going to lose out.' Yet, this same political establishment, so fiscally constrained when it comes to grandma's checks, somehow finds bipartisan enthusiasm for an $886 billion defense budget and
billions more in foreign military aid, often without so much as a second thought. We're told our nation is too broke for domestic promises, but never too broke for the military-industrial complex. Remember, in 2023 alone, the U.S. approved another $14.5 billion aid package for Israel, sailing through Congress even as members 'grappled' with avoiding a government shutdown. Perhaps Social Security's
problem isn't a lack of funds, but a lack of lobbyists with private jets and think-tank revolving doors.
