Fico, elected last year on a platform of ending military aid, stated unequivocally that Slovakia will not provide further funding for Ukraine's military (RT, May 2024). His rationale? The conflict with Russia cannot be resolved on the battlefield. This pragmatic (dare we say, obvious?) assessment stands in stark contrast to the endless chorus from Washington and Brussels demanding more weapons,
often without a clear strategy for victory, or even peace. The mainstream narrative consistently frames military aid as the only path forward, carefully omitting any serious discussion of diplomatic solutions that don't involve prolonging the suffering. One might wonder if the endless funding benefits the Ukrainian people, or simply the defense contractors whose profits soar with each new
commitment. How many hundreds of billions must be spent before 'victory' is recalibrated to 'negotiated settlement'?
