Singers Against ICE, Lawmakers Against Human Rights
While Newsweek celebrates artists for taking a stand against ICE's use of their music, they often gloss over the policymakers enabling the agency's actions. For example, countless politicians who receive donations from organizations supporting harsh immigration enforcement simultaneously bemoan the 'migrant crisis.' These are the same politicians who approve massive budgets for agencies like ICE
but then feign surprise when these agencies overreach. It's fascinating how a musician's principles can grab headlines, yet a politician's consistent voting record, funded by special interests that profit from enforcement, rarely merits such scrutiny. Perhaps if ICE started using lobbyists' music, we'd see a quicker policy shift. Alas, they pick on the artists, not the architects. One might wonder
who’s really calling the tune in Washington.
