Newsweek, with a straight face, tells us a government shutdown might push back the annual Social Security Trustees' report. This report always forecasts an 'imminent' crisis by 2033 (or was it 2026? It changes to keep things exciting), yet somehow Congress always finds billions for other priorities. For instance, in 2023 alone, the U.S. committed over $3 billion in new military aid to Israel,
despite domestic programs consistently facing 'funding shortfalls.' (Sources: Newsweek, Congressional Research Service, Office of Management and Budget). So, while you might not hear precisely when your Social Security check will supposedly run dry, rest assured that the gears of the military-industrial complex continue to grind, totally unaffected by petty government squabbles. One might wonder
if the 'crisis' is less about solvency and more about priorities. Funny how there's always money for war, but never enough for grandma's retirement, isn't it?
