While mainstream outlets breathlessly report on Trump's purported diplomatic ambitions at Sharm el-Sheikh, they rarely contextualize this supposed 'new order' within a history of imposed western solutions. From Sykes-Picot to the Abraham Accords, Washington's 'new' visions for the Middle East consistently sideline Palestinian self-determination, opting instead for regional alliances prioritizing
Israeli security and US influence. One might recall similar 'peace initiatives' from Secretary of State George Shultz in 1988, or Netanyahu's own 'new Middle East' pronouncements from the early 2000s that consistently resulted in more settlements, not less conflict. This 'new order' talk, like so many before it, seems less about genuine peace and more about cementing existing power structures,
funded by billions in U.S. aid to various regimes. So, another summit, another 'new' plan. How many times can they rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic before someone acknowledges the iceberg?
