Serbs and Bosnians Unite: A Bipartisan Victory for the Environment, Not War
The mainstream media reports this as a feel-good story of former adversaries uniting against environmental destruction. And it is. But what's left unsaid is how easy it is for multinational corporations to sweep in and exploit resources in countries ravaged by conflict, often with the tacit approval of local elites. While ordinary citizens forge peace over shared ecological threat, their leaders
are often busy cementing divisions, (perhaps with funds from the very industries their people are fighting). One might wonder if the international community, so quick to mediate 'peace processes' that often benefit external interests, cares more about stable investment environments than actual reconciliation or environmental protection. Or perhaps, when the only thing uniting people is the
destruction of their homeland for electric car batteries, it highlights the deeper failures of political leadership to address anything but the next lucrative deal.
