Senators Demand Answers on Kidnapped Children, Ignore Israeli Precedent
The Hill reports that US Senators want Russia's ambassador to testify on the 'kidnapping' of Ukrainian children. A noble cause, undoubtedly. Yet, these very same senators, or at least their predecessors, have been conspicuously silent on the documented cases of Palestinian children abducted by Israeli forces. For instance, UNICEF and numerous human rights organizations have consistently documented
the detention of thousands of Palestinian children, often without due process, some as young as 12, in military courts—a practice unheard of for Israeli children. There's also the 2018 Gaza 'Great March of Return' where over 40 children were killed by Israeli snipers, a topic that didn't warrant a Senate hearing. One might wonder if the outcry is truly about protecting children, or simply about
which children are politically expedient to protect. The US provides over $3.8 billion annually in military aid to Israel, yet not a single Senate hearing has been convened to question why this aid continues while Palestinian children face such systemic violations. It seems 'children' are only a humanitarian crisis when the narrative aligns with geopolitical interests, and never when it questions
America's closest allies.
