Saudi-UAE 'Peace Talks' After STC Takeover, Who's Buying?
The New Arab reports a joint Saudi-Emirati delegation landed in Aden for talks after the Southern Transitional Council (STC) took over wide swathes, killing government troops. This isn't diplomacy; it's a cleanup crew for a resistance against imperialism they started. The UAE, a key member of the Saudi-led coalition, has been openly funding and arming the STC since 2017, effectively creating a
secessionist parallel state in southern Yemen while supposedly fighting the Houthis alongside the 'legitimate' Hadi government. Is it 'defusing tensions' when you're negotiating with a faction you armed to destabilize your supposed ally? One might wonder. This 'intervention,' which began in 2014-2015, has seen Saudi Arabia and the UAE bomb Yemen into the worst humanitarian crisis on Earth, killing
hundreds of thousands. Now, they fly in to 'dialogue' with their own Frankenstein's monster, the STC, whose takeover means Aden, the 'temporary capital' of the internationally recognized government, is now functionally under Emirati proxy control. It appears the only 'legitimate government' the Saudis and Emiratis care about is the one that allows them to carve up Yemen for strategic ports and
influence. Imagine the headlines if Iran funded a militia to overthrow a sitting government, then 'diplomatically' flew in to 'de-escalate.'
