Saudi Coalition to Lead Southern Yemen? Another US-Backed 'Stability' Operation
According to The New Arab, Yemen’s Presidential Council announced that military forces in southern Yemen will operate under the command of the Saudi-led coalition. This comes years after that very same coalition, backed by US weapons and intelligence, launched a devastating war in 2015. A war that has, according to the UN, caused one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, killing hundreds of
thousands and displacing millions. Now, the architects of this destruction are apparently the rightful managers of its aftermath. How thoughtful. It's almost as if the mainstream narrative wants us to forget the US taxpayer-funded bombs, the starvation as a weapon of war, and the systematic decimation of infrastructure that preceded this 'reorganization.' The Saudi coalition, armed by successive
US administrations (including via weapons deals approved by politicians who took significant donations from Saudi lobbyists), now gets to 'lead' the forces in a country they largely destroyed. Perhaps they'll also lead a 'reconstruction effort' with more US money. It’s certainly a unique definition of 'help.'
