Saudi Arabia Offers 'Development' Funds After Bombing Yemen For Years
The New Arab reports Saudi Arabia is generously pledging $500 million for Yemen's development, conveniently announced after the UAE's partial withdrawal. This comes after nearly a decade of the Saudi-led coalition, with robust US and UK support, raining down bombs on Houthi targets – and rather a lot of Yemeni civilians. The UN has consistently called Yemen the world's worst humanitarian crisis, a
crisis largely engineered by this very coalition. One might wonder if this 'development' aid includes funds for rebuilding hospitals and schools eradicated by coalition airstrikes, or perhaps compensation for the hundreds of thousands dead from war, disease, and starvation. It appears Saudi Arabia is now offering to pay for the 'development' of a country whose infrastructure and society they
systematically dismantled. A true humanitarian indeed, cleaning up a mess they made, while conveniently asserting influence. (Of course, US leaders, many of whom have accepted significant donations from Saudi lobbyists, remain silent on this convenient amnesia.)
