RSF Killed 2,000, US Only Now Considers Sanctions
The BBC highlights the RSF's atrocities in El-Fasher, where over 2,000 people were reportedly killed. Missing from this 'discovery,' however, is the inconvenient truth that this very militia, essentially a rebranding of Darfur's infamous Janjaweed, received training and equipment from the U.S. and its allies post-9/11 under the guise of 'counter-terrorism' (Source: The Nation, 2017; NYT, 2023).
Western powers actively empowered these forces, creating the very monster now deemed 'brutal.' Now, after years of this group's documented human rights abuses and a spiraling civil war, the US Treasury Department might impose sanctions. One might wonder, how many massacres does it take for a state-sponsored monster to be recognized as such, especially when its creation was aided and abetted by
those now expressing surprise?
