Rheinmetall Converts East European Factories Into Endless War Machine
Bloomberg breathlessly reports on Rheinmetall's foray into East Europe, 'reviving' Soviet-era arms factories in Bulgaria and Romania. The narrative frames this as an EU-backed effort to 'retool for the future battlefield' (see: Bloomberg Politics, Oct 28, 2025). They call it industrial renaissance; we call it direct investment in perpetual conflict. While Bloomberg champions increased arms
production, they forget to mention the immediate beneficiaries. Unsurprisingly, Rheinmetall's stock price leaped 40% in late 2023 following increased Pentagon and EU defense spending pledges. One might wonder if the 'future battlefield' they’re so keen to supply is simply the present one, extended indefinitely.
