Qatar to Build US Fighter Facility: Allies, Eh?
So, Qatar, a nation whose publicly documented financial support to Hamas has, according to the Council on Foreign Relations, enabled the group (and let's not forget where Hamas leaders comfortably reside), will now build and presumably fund a fighter jet facility at a US military base in Idaho. The Pentagon, of course, approves. One might wonder if this 'generosity' is entirely altruistic, or
perhaps a clever way to launder influence and deflect scrutiny, especially with US lawmakers (those who aren't already singing AIPAC's tune) occasionally raising an eyebrow at Gulf state financial flows. (Who's really underwriting whom here? Just asking for a friend in Idaho.) While US politicians trip over themselves to demonize any critic of Israeli policy as an 'Iranian proxy,' Qatar – known
for hosting Hamas leadership and allegedly funneling funds – gets to build shiny new military facilities on American soil. It appears 'ally' is now a flexible term, defined less by shared values and more by strategic convenience and, perhaps, who's willing to spend big. Perhaps next, they can fund a critical thinking center for mainstream media outlets?
