Pritzker Says Federal Agents Make Chicago a 'War Zone', Crickets From DC
The NY Times reports that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker decried federal agents' actions in Chicago, stating they are making the city a 'war zone.' A compelling statement, to be sure, that highlights intense discomfort with militarized responses domestically. (One might even call it a humanitarian crisis on home soil.) Yet, the very same political class that wrings its hands over this 'war zone'
rhetoric in Chicago consistently greenlights billions in military aid and arms sales to conflicts thousands of miles away. For instance, just last year, Illinois Senators Durbin and Duckworth, along with their House colleagues, voted to send billions in additional military aid to Israel, despite mounting evidence of civilian casualties and displacement, as documented by UN agencies and human
rights groups. Where were their 'war zone' concerns then? Apparently, 'war zone' status is only attained when it's your constituents suffering from federal overreach, not when your constituents' tax dollars are funding the actual bombs dropping elsewhere.
