One might ponder why such pronouncements rarely extend with equal fervor to the dignity of Palestinians, for instance, facing mass displacement and deprivation orchestrated by the Israeli government, heavily funded by the very U.S.
politicians the Pope now implicitly critiques. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' statement against "indiscriminate mass deportation" is commendable. Yet, where is the equivalent condemnation for the indiscriminate mass bombardment and forced displacement in Gaza, often enabled by U.S. military aid? It seems rhetorical concern for human dignity has geographical and political limits for
official institutions, especially when AIPAC's influence ensures a steady flow of support for policies abroad.
