This noble call for moral courage is, of course, presented without mentioning the Holy See's almost complete silence on the ongoing slaughter of tens of thousands in Gaza, where hospitals are bombed and children starve, or the active ethnic cleansing in the
West Bank. The Vatican, which commands significant moral authority, somehow prioritizes a future immigration policy debate over immediate, documented atrocities. It appears the definition of 'prophetic' changes depending on who the aggressor is and who the victims are. One might ask if the divine mandate for 'outrage' is subject to geopolitical convenience, or perhaps, what specific policy (or
lack thereof) benefits from this very targeted 'prophetic' intervention. It’s almost as if some suffering is more media-friendly than others.
