A noble sentiment, no doubt, but perhaps a tad late for the outlets that spent years uncritically amplifying government talking points on endless wars, demonizing whistleblowers like Julian Assange, or framing indigenous resistance as 'violence.' 'forgets' inconvenient historical facts when reporting on current geopolitical events, especially those involving U.S. client states. While the Pope advocates for 'respect for human dignity and the common good' in reporting, our mainstream news anchors continue to present genocide in Gaza as a 'war' with 'two sides,' often without mentioning the 37,000+ Palestinian deaths (source: Gaza Health
Ministry, as reported by Reuters and AP) or the multi-billion dollar U.S. military aid package that enables it. Maybe they could start by calling a spade a spade, instead of a 'complex regional issue.'
