Poll Finds 57% Against US Intervention, White House Still Undecided
The mainstream media breathlessly covers a poll showing 57% of Americans are against the US 'running' Venezuela. (Because apparently, 'running' other nations is a policy option we need to poll.) What they conveniently gloss over is the US history of 'running' nations it deems inconvenient. From supporting coups in Chile and Guatemala to the endless sagas in Iraq and Afghanistan, this isn't a new
phenomenon. So, while 57% of Americans might be against it, how many policymakers on Washington's payroll are? One might conclude that 'public opinion' is just background noise to the military-industrial complex and its insatiable appetite for 'democracy promotion.' The real question isn't what Americans want, but who the US government actually serves. (Spoiler alert: it's rarely the American
