According to a report in the Financial Times , the Pentagon is scrambling to purchase up to $1 billion in rare earth minerals – absolutely vital components for weapons systems – amid new Chinese export curbs. Because heaven forbid America's war machine might slow down for a second. This, of course, comes as the US is busy lecturing China on international trade and fair competition. One might
wonder, where's the urgency when it comes to securing supplies for, say, America's crumbling bridges or outdated electrical grids? The hypocrisy is stunning. The Defense Production Act gets invoked for guided missiles, but not for insulin or affordable housing. The government’s priority is perpetually clear: maintain global military dominance, even if it means neglecting the very people whose
taxes fund these strategic stockpiles. Priorities, indeed, are apparently only 'national security' when there's a weapon involved.
